BOTOX® Cosmetic lasts approximately 3-4 months. However, it has been shown that patients who consistently receive BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments find that after a year, they have longer-lasting results. The whole procedure takes just a couple of minutes. Dr. Schlessinger uses a very fine needle – you will feel only little pinches.
A board-certified surgeon – specializing in the eyes and face – Dr. Schlessinger has been a leading cosmetic surgeon for the past 12 years. He has performed thousands of eyelid, facial rejuvenation, and reconstructive surgeries and teaches techniques to other surgeons in the area. A true sub-specialist, Dr. Schlessinger is often called upon by other cosmetic physicians to repair complicated problems.
Cosmetic procedures are most often performed in our state-of-the-art, ambulatory surgical suite. Non-cosmetic cases are generally brought to the Melville Surgery Center. Dr. Schlessinger will determine which facility is best for your surgery. You will then recover in the comfort of your own home.
Some procedures can be performed under local anesthesia or with light sedation given by our licensed, board-certified physician anesthesiologist. We are able to accommodate the patient’s individual requests to provide their desired level of comfort.
Recovery from most eyelid surgery procedures requires only a weekend’s rest. After the weekend, you can resume your normal lifestyle. However, bruising and swelling vary among patients and can last upwards of 7-10 days.
A prescription pain medication is prescribed to minimize any discomfort. However, most patients use nothing more than extra-strength Tylenol.
When the surgery is performed for medical reasons, such as excessive hooding of the upper eyelids, or impaired vision, insurance may cover part of the cost of the procedure. We will assist you in checking with your insurance carrier. However, most facial rejuvenation procedures and surgeries are considered cosmetic and your insurance company will not cover that treatment.
Eyelid surgery offers permanent results, however, will not stop the aging process. Other procedures that slow the effects of aging may be repeated after a number of years. The overall benefits of cosmetic surgery are long-lasting when you follow a healthy lifestyle, including exercise and proper diet.

The Medspa at Schlessinger Eye & Face offers traditional spa services, like a day spa. However, because our Medspa is housed within a licensed medical practice we are able to use medical grade products (allowing you to receive greater results from your treatments) and offer you medical treatments (BOTOX® Cosmetic, Restylane®, Radiesse®, JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel, Silikon®, PhotoFacial, Laser Therapy) unlike a spa or salon. Our licensed aestheticians work under the direct supervision of Dr. David Schlessinger allowing us to provide a soothing, relaxing spa experience in a safe, medical environment.
BOTOX® relaxes the muscles that cause lines & wrinkles to form on the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the eyes, limiting their ability to contract. Restylane® (like JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel, Radiesse® & Silikon®) is a facial filler that restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe wrinkles and folds. Fillers can also be used to shape facial contours and improve the shape of the lips. BOTOX® and the filler products work together to complement one another.
There are many cosmetic options out there today – and the choices can certainly be overwhelming. Although many of today’s ‘fillers’ set out to achieve the same goals, they are each unique in their own right. Dr. Schlessinger is an expert in the administration of Restylane®, JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel, Radiesse® and Silikon®.
