How to Recover From a Chemical Peel
Having the perfect skin is hard to get on your own; especially if you have acne scars and fine lines and wrinkles. Here at Dr. David A. Schlessinger’s office, we have a variety of skin care treatments including chemical peels to help patients like you get smoother, more youthful looking skin. Chemical peels are a skin resurfacing procedure in which we apply a chemical solution to the skin which peels away the top layers. After the skin has peeled away, the skin grows back smoother, younger, and more refreshed. As its name states, a chemical peel will make your skin start to peel off which can make it a bit red and look irritated. To help you speed up the healing process, we have a few recovery tips for you to consider.
Keep It Moisturized
The more your skin is moisturized, the faster it’s going to heal. Try applying a thick layer of a gentle, unscented moisturizer all over your face before you got to bed at night. Not only will it help to speed up your recovery but it will also soothe your skin so that it doesn’t feel so irritated.
Don’t’ Pick At It
The first thing you will want to do when you see peeling skin is pick at it but that’s the last thing that you should do. Picking at your skin may lead to scarring and may further exacerbate your skin. Instead, just let it naturally slough off and then remove the layers once they have naturally peeled off on their own.
Avoid the Sun
Exposing your skin to the sun after a chemical peel may irritate it and make it feel more sensitive. Try to keep out of the sun as much as possible while your skin is recovering and make sure that you wear sunscreen if you do go outside.
Depending on the type of peel that you get and the strength of peel that you get, will determine just how long it will take your skin to recover. To learn more, contact us at our Woodbury office at 516-496-2122.
